SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Information Desk is the center of front-line operations for the Seton Shrine.  The Receptionist attends the Information Desk where he or she greets visitors, answers questions, and ensures that programs and visitor services are provided to the visitors.  The Receptionist/Guide also provides programming, primarily interpretation of the historic homes, grounds, and other elements of the Shrine according to a provided script. The Receptionist is a key point of contact for many Shrine visitors and represents the Shrine by his or her words, actions, and attitude.  

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Welcome and host visitors, helping them feel informed and at-ease regarding their visit.

  • Be present at the information desk when assigned; ensure the presence of a trained substitute when away from the desk.
  • Greet and inform visitors with clarity, warmth and freshness.
  • Welcome visiting groups and brief their leaders regarding the details of their group’s visit.
  • Maintain availability for visiting groups and provide or arrange for any help they may require.
  • Provide amenities as required, assisting with room set up/tear down, catering, etc. 

Manage basic visitor services and function as part of the Shrine team.

  • Follow procedure for opening and closing the museum and historic homes.
  • Communicate with staff as necessary to confirm details of the day’s visiting groups.
  • Monitor Shrine premises by way of security camera system.  Address any incidents as appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of weather, campus activity, and threats to safety that may affect visitors and frontline staff; respond as appropriate.
  • Manage and record visitorship.

Provide visitor programs.

  • Serve as a Guide or Docent whenever assigned.
  • Participate in event planning, execution, setup and teardown as assigned.
  • Provide orientation film, audio tours, youth activities and other programs as assigned.

Perform other related duties as assigned.  Fill idle time with work that benefits the Shrine.
