Visitor Experience Facilitator

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Seton Shrine exists to promote the life and legacy of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton as a source of inspiration and encouragement for all people.  The Program Department is dedicated to creating a visitor experience with clarity, warmth and freshness to walk-in visitors and groups daily and through special events, exhibits and other programs.  The Interpreters support this by presenting information to visitors in a narrative formation with accuracy and in an engaging manner.  

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Create an easy, peaceful environment that allows visitors to focus on their experience

  • Make positive contact with visitors as they enjoy our campus and facility and foster a desire for future visits
  • Retain historical facts, dates and anecdotes
  • Lead visitors through points of interests, highlighting visual artifacts and other venue offerings

Manage daily visitor center operations on both weekdays and weekends

  • Open/Close procedures of the Visitor Center involving Information Desk, museum and historic homes, point of sales transaction
  • Provide superb hospitality services to public

Seeking individuals that can also complete the following job duties:

  • Information Desk
    • Operate the daily sales processes in Altru including accurate recording of visitor counts, check-in of group sales, and handling all monies honestly
    • Coordinate tours with other interpreters
    • Manage Visitor Center operations including attention and care of museum objects as needed, efficient internal/external communication (phones and emails), and ensuring an attractive manner of the Information Desk
  • Guide
    • Demonstration of the tour modules of Historic Homes Tour, Civil War Sisters Tour, and/or Catherine Comes Homes tour
    • Exhibit pride in work and is a team player
    • Practice proper care and use of all artifacts, especially of the Historic Homes
  • Host
    • Assists the Group Reservations Coordinator in greeting and hosting pilgrimage and retreat groups onsite
    • Execute all the arranged details of the groups such as catering, room set-up/tear-down, coordination of group’s itinerary and other related logistics
    •  Assist with organization of the Retreat Storage Room
  • Gift Shop
    • Open and close shop according to established procedures
    • Operate point of sale system including processing web/phone sales
    • Assist in processing and stocking inventory, including monitoring and replenishing floor stock
  • Basilica Docent
    • Manage Basilica operations
    • Successful demonstration of the Basilica Tour module
    • Accurate reporting of visitor count
  • Sacristan
    • Assist with sacristan duties before, during, and after masses
    • Assist the Sister Sacristan in decorating the altar(s)
  • Living History Interpreter
    • Proactively initiate engaging and information interactions
    • Represent the past through the accurate, gender-specific re-creations of 19th century activities including period dress
    • Proper use of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person interpretation and dressed appropriately for the day’s assigned location
    • Assist with the development of programs including participation and outreach

Reliable, dependable, and a team player in accomplishing daily responsibilities and duties.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Training is provided, however the following education and experience is preferred

  • Retains or working towards a high school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Exposure or related coursework to the field of History, Museum Studies, Theater, Education or other related studies
  • Prefer prior experience in planning and leading groups of individuals, and experience working with children
